Ashley Wood/Coal Shaker Handle. The handle attaches to a stub on the grate and is used to shift the grate(s) from side to side. This helps move ash to the bottom of the ashpan and allows oxygen to get to the base of the fire. It is important not to allow ash to build up to the top of the grate. This can cause the grate to warp and burn out.
